Turn left out of the front door, then after about 50 yards take the steps down to Union Street \/ Fore Street, by the <strong>Fortescue Inn<\/strong>. On the opposite corner is the <strong>Off Licence<\/strong> and <strong>Bakery<\/strong> next door (best pain aux raisins I\u2019ve had). A short way along on the right is <strong>Cranch\u2019s Pantry<\/strong> (general stores and veg) and the <strong>Butcher<\/strong> on the opposite left corner.<\/p>\n<p>Continuing along Fore Street, the <strong>Newsagent<\/strong> is on your left just after the junction with Clifton Place. <strong>Boots<\/strong> is further along on the left and there is Lloyds <strong>cashpoint<\/strong> roughly opposite, on the right.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Salcombe Deli<\/strong> is up the far end of Fore Street on the right, opposite the <strong>Ferry Inn<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Post Office<\/strong> (and <strong>Spar<\/strong>) is in Loring Road.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h5>Salcombe<\/h5>\n<p><strong>Victoria Inn<\/strong><br \/>\n01548 842604<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.victoriainn-salcombe.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">www.victoriainn-salcombe.co.uk<\/a><br \/>\n<em>(Our favourite Salcombe pub \u2013 say hi from us to Jacky and Rob)<\/em><br \/>\nOn Fore Street opposite Whitestrand car park. Well worth a visit.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h5>\u00a0Beaches, Walks &amp; Places to visit<\/h5>\n<p><strong>Overbecks<\/strong><br \/>\n01548 842893<br \/>\nNational Trust house and gardens on far side of South Sands.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/nationaltrust.org.uk\/overbecks\" target=\"_blank\">nationaltrust.org.uk\/overbecks<\/a><\/p>\n<p>There is a local <strong>OS Map<\/strong> in the cottage for you to use. There are any number of walks in the area. Three of our favourites are:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bolt Head<\/strong><br \/>\nThere are fabulous walks to Bolt Head and along the coastal path to Inner Hope, with inland diversions and mini circuits along marked footpaths on the OS map.<\/p>\n<p>You can walk to Bolt Head from the cottage \u2013 via Salcombe, North Sands and South Sands, but we normally take the car to (e.g.) <strong>Overbecks<\/strong> (National Trust, see above) and park there for free.<\/p>\n<p>A two or three hour walk would get you <strong>Soar Mill Cove Hotel<\/strong> which is a lovely spot with views over the bay, and very friendly staff.<br \/>\n<em>(Say hello to Jenny and Keith the owners if you see them)<br \/>\n<\/em>We stayed there for the three nights before we completed on the cottage.<\/p>\n<p>A bit further along is the <strong>Port Light Hotel and Restaurant<\/strong> at Bolberry Down<\/p>\n<p><strong>Gara Rock<\/strong><br \/>\nTake the foot ferry from Whitestrand on Fore Street across to East Portlemouth. From there you can do a circuit of a few miles to Gara Rock, one half inland, the other along the coastal path. There is a caf\u00e9 at Gara rock which serves coffee, lunch and tea &#8211; 01548 844810.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Snapes Point<\/strong><br \/>\nThis is the headland you see over to the left out of the bedroom window. Walk past the Long Stay car park in Gould Road and along to Lower Batson at the end of Batson Creek, then follow the road round to the right which leads uphill on the far side of the creek. Continue as far as you can until just before the lane becomes a private drive \u2013 look for a marked path uphill to your left.
